Had a cracking weekends gaming and play testing the `Hit The Dirt` rules with the lads.

Good to spend a complete weekend gaminmg without the restrictions of time and great to get Al out and see both Steve E and Terry again.

Me, Al, Terry and Steve. Very Happy

I reckon Al likes Terry Embarassed

Game 1: Prelude to Op. Goodwood.

Terry`s Valiant British making progress against my Germans on the left flank.

Terry goes for it without delay and after a couiple of minor setbacks where the odd Platooon got pinned, he moves up to take out the German right flank.

My German defence positions in depth attract attention to themselves and after a good old anti tank scrap, my Mk. IV succumbs.

Steve makes a steady and more measured advance as he has to cross a fair bit of open ground. Steve`s Infantry supported by my Churchills , on loan against Al!!

Steve`s all arms attack makes an impressive display.

`Big Brothers` on Overwatch. Wink

A cracking first game and a win for the visitors. Plenty of brews and the odd cake Wink . A real pleasure to see the lads again.

Germans had a Hetzer and three Mk. IV`s on the left flank with two Coy`s. of Infantry from an infantry Bn, (Infantry Division formation) and an 81mm Mortar in support.

On the right flank the Germans had two Coy`s of F J, under strength and two Stugs and an 81mm Mortar.

The British attacking forces had an Infantry Brigade from an Infantry Division with Churchills in support. They deployed two Bn.`s up and one in reserve. 79th Armd. Div assets were also available but no aircraft as the weather was poor. (we looked out of the window).

The balance was spot on. The game was very close right until the end. The British had to cross a fair amount of open ground and the Germans were deployed along a twelve foot long ridge (representing the slopes of Hill 112).

The rules palyed well and at first the British struggled as they came under fire. A number of British Platoons were pinned down and the German mortar fire was effective . As the Germans fired, more were spotted and the tank battle aspect of the game was evenly matched.

The Brits made good use of their dedicated artillery support (a Battery per Bn.) and this helped to get the Brits in onto their objectives. It was a nail biting finish as casualties mounted on both sides but the Germans cracked first and withdrew to secondary defensiove positions (off table to the rear) and the British secured their objectives.
