After a basing discussion I decided to base some artillery and buildings.

The following is a 25 lb pit built on a CD. The shape sculpted from foam insulation

coated with plaster, intial painting and kitty litter (which I discovered on this forum)

sandbags and some turf added (ran out of turf) need to add two more posts and the overhead camo netting and tie downs.

Airfix command post mounted on trimmed down CD, kitty litter added as rubble. Will add balsa wood beams and clay tiles, turf and more bits of refuse.

Sandbags made from Crayola modeling dough (Wal-Mart, next to the crayons and glitter glue) After some doubts as I struggled with shaping and forming (looking at first like a pile of M and Ms) I think these will be alright.

the other side (with AB figures)

A Panzer IV thrown in for good measure. Used to be panzer grey, painted with heavy dry-brush/brown undercoat according to Vanguard's Dunklegelb tutorial (thanks!)

comments? I'm not crazed about the 25 lb gun pit yet, it feels too high yet not sunken enough. Nor am I sure how ammo, empties and the caisson would have been positioned. Most photos I've seen are only of the gun. It seems these pits were cluttered and messy (and huge)

thanks for looking

It all looks good to me. The gun position looks fine.
To me, cluttered looks more like hectic combat than nice, neat and orderly.

I look forward to seeing the finished product.
Thanks for sharing.
