Following the encirclement of the Iraqi forces in the Iranian 'Operation Dawn 6', several units have become dangerously cut-off. While many have surrendered, some fight on in the hope that other Iraqi forces may reach them.

One such unit is a platoon from the 33rd Independant Special Forces Brigade. They are cut-off behind the advancing Iranian forces and refuse to give up hope. With them is the minister for the province, and cousin of Saddam, who must not fall into the hands of the Iranians. At the moment their position is secure but large numbers of Basji and Pasdaran troops have been seen in the area. It looks likely that the Iranian commander is going to use these fanatical militia forces to assault the Iraqi position. Things become even worse when regular Iranian troops from the 88th Armoured Brigade are spotted to the north. It nows seems the attack by the Iranian militias will be supported by Iranian veterans.

All is not lost however. The Iranian offensive is grinding to a halt in the face of Iraqi use of Mustard Gas and Sarin Nerve Agents. So far the effects have been dramatic and Iranian advances have almost totally stopped. Saddam himself has order a unit from the 6th Armoured Division to break in and extract the beleagured Iraqi Special Forces and free his cousin from the clutches of the Iranian mobs.

The Table Set-Up

The game began with the Iranians advancing on a wide front with their armour leading the charge. Meanwhile the Iraqi Commando unit spent the start of the battle hiding from view after one of their men was killed when the Iranian Chieftain shelled their trench. The Iraqi Commandos would remain hiding till the relief column arrived!

Iranian Troops surge forward... The Pasdaran lead the way!

After several ineffective efforts at shelling the Iraqi forces in the town the Iranians tried to close the gap to the town before the relief force arrived. By luck for the Iraqis, one of the relief forces charged into action on the third turn and proceeded to launch a barrage of RPG fire at the Iranian armour...

The Iraqi re-enfocements arrive to battle the Pasdaran.

After a few exchanges of fire the wave of RPGs and the Iraqi T-62 soon left the Iranian tanks on the right flank ablaze... With a lack of support things looked grim for the Pasdaran forces and casualties began to mount...

Iranian tanks burn in the desert... But the Pasdaran advance continues!

After several more bouts of firing things began to descend into a stalemate. Without armour on the right flank the Iranians were unable to push into the town and their attacks in the centre began to falter as the Iraqi commandos emerged to fire at them as they crossed the open ground. Despite this the Iranian regulars continued to advance and managed to reach the Iraqi trench line, and were promptly cut down by the second Iraqi relief unit that had by now arrived, while the Chieftain continued to shell Iraqi troops causing horrific casualties.

Iranian regulars shelter among the wrecks of the convoy as their Chieftan fires upon the town, impervious to Iraqi fire.

By the end of the game the Iranians had failed to reach the town in any real numbers. The Regulars failed to support the Pasdaran attack and rather than a combined assault, three seperate small attacks were launched on the town and the Iraqi defenders were able to defeat each in turn, despite suffering a number of casualties, especially among the commandos who suffered dreadfully at the efforts of the Chieftain to slowly reduce the town to ruins one building at a time.

Iraqi Commandos look out over the battlefield at the end...

Are you using the Modern supplement? If so how are you finding them?

Ok... But Im kinda using bits from each. Not sure there is much real difference to be honest other than a change to activations. Not entirely convinced the 'Moderns Supplement' is much more than some army lists really.

To be honest I am becoming a little disheartened with DH due to the horrendous amounts of printing mistakes in the books. The German book is a joke.

Shame as the rules are good.

Very nice! *So jealous*

So I assume doing a human wave against a entrenched enemy wasnt such a good idea? Wink
The sad story is that is what they used during that war, ww1 tactics with modern guns.

Sounds historical then!

Great looking game - the lowdown shot of the chieftain is really atmospheric

Was there no artillery in the game? The inf all look very bunched up, sorta 40K-esque

Cheers

Bob

No artillery... I decided that the Iraqis didnt have any due to the offensive pushing them back in disarray! Wink

But most of the players are 40K players so that maybe why the similarity is there too! Rolling Eyes

I must stop looking for stuff I sent you in every pic I see. You sure love the tanker!

Once day mate, I'll have pics like this....though from the looks of of it, pics of teeny men and teeny planes and teeny tanks. Preferably with a V-2 somewhere.... Rolling Eyes
