With the new year just started I thought I'd return to updating my blog, so here're a few updates of a napoleonic game played on 30 December .

I'm waiting for some decent photos (my photography skills are not up to a standard I'd feel comfortable posting here, given the quality of the figures in the game) to arrive from the other camera wielding guy

It's a set Kelly authored. Over the years we've tried the likes of République, Age of Eagles (Fire and Fury variant) even Horse foot and guns (spit) but nothing has really taken our fancy. Given that of the five players in the game, two of them probably have napoleonics as their primary interest and the other two would have it as second, the only thing that's surprising is how long it's taken to get to this stage.

The biggest shift was moving away from the whole micro-management of worrying about Battalion formations etc and concentrating on Corps level engagements. That was helped by a conscious decision to go for the aesthetics of the larger basing and also because a fast game playable in 2.5 to 3 hours tops of an evening is a necessity with small children and a weeknight gaming session.

One thing I do need to stress is that while there are a couple of battlefront staff involved, this is very much an after-hours personal project and the two BF guys are all about the painting and playing Napoleonics rather than decveloping a comercial set of rules. However, be that as it may, by the time the rules are actually finished I'd expect some fairly significant graphics component to be incorporated - the PDFs we use already include colour photos of units. None of us are willing to put up with WRG style presentation or formatting let alone the tortuous prose.

Thanks for all the comments, messages and emails about my blog guys. It's very much appreciated. I'm still to upload the last post in the Napoleonic series - should be up later today and then it's back to stuff about my own modelling/painting again.
