This is a duplicate of a topic I made over on the new Guild site since I'm not quite sure which site is currently seeing more use.

It's been quite a while since I participated in any form of wargaming or miniature painting but I've been feeling the urge to throw my hand in once again, starting with some modern UK forces (probably from Liberation).

I've been perusing the photographs over at the MOD's Defence Image Database to gain some inspiration, concentrated mostly on images from the latest Iraq war and Afghanistan. I've noticed that there is quite a mix of both desert and temperate pattern dpm, in just about every variation possible. I appreciate that there are perfectly valid reasons for this but what I was wondering was how common this mix of resources is?

For example: take a photograph of two soldiers on patrol in desert trousers with temperature jackets. Would it be reasonable to assume that the rest of their section would be similarly attired, or indeed their entire troop? How widespread are these variations in a real warzone, is it a real hodge podge or are the guys in mixed gear the exception?

Also, according to the official guidlines (I mean as opposed to what happens in practice) what colour are the vehicles deployed in Afghanistan, green or sand? Oh, and what about British troops in Africa would they where temperate or desert dpm and what colour would their vehicles be?

Sorry if these sound like silly questions and thanks for any light you can shed of the situation.

Loop.

Thanks very much Leigh, your answer confirmed my suspicions.
